About us

At M & M Counseling, PLLC we work to create a warm, inviting and safe space to speak with clients. We work tenaciously with clients to see a positive change and the growth they desire. Here therapy is as a partnership and an opportunity for clients to benefit from the skills they attain. We work with people of all ages and circumstances, however, Tichiya’s areas of specialty are working with children and adolescents, individuals with mental illness, individuals facing mood disorders, such as depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and families that have children in special education or in need of school supports. Likewise, Kenneth’s areas of specialty are working with individuals with mental illness, individuals facing mood disorders, such as depression, anxiety, etc., career counseling and couples.

Dr. Tichiya Maxey, DSW, LCSW, MSW

Tichiya is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who completed her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and later her Masters of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana with a mental health focus. She attended Aurora University for her post-Masters school social work program and she has a type 73 Professional Educator's License. Tichiya is a graduate of Tulane University’s Doctor of Social Work (DSW) program. Tichiya has assisted students of varying ages, cultures and economic backgrounds for over ten years serving in the capacity of school social worker. She also has experience as a child and adolescent individual and group therapist on an inpatient psychiatric unit through Streamwood Behavioral Health Systems at St. Mary’s of Nazareth and as a mental health case manager and medical social worker with Edward Hines VA Hospital. She works with people of all ages and circumstances, however her areas of specialty are working with children and adolescents, individuals with mental illness, individuals facing mood disorders, depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and families that have children in special education or in need of school support. Tichiya utilizes a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Crisis Intervention and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to assist each individual with achieving their goals for therapy and beyond.

Dr. Kenneth Maxey, EdD, MS, LCPC, CRC

Kenneth is Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) as well as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) with a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the Illinois Institute of Technology, whose Rehabilitation Counseling graduate program ranked #13 in the country in 2015, according to U.S. News. Kenneth is a recent graduate of University of Western States’ Doctor of Education, sport and psychology performance program. He has worked on staff in a variety of settings both non-profit and for-profit, including but not limited to psychiatric hospitals, social service agencies, etc. Kenneth works primarily with young adults, adults and couples. Assisting individuals with mental illness, individuals facing mood disorders, such as depression, anxiety, etc., assisting with career counseling as well as couples and family therapy. Kenneth utilizes a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Crisis Intervention and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in an effort to meet each individual where they are and make their introduction to the therapeutic process as seamless as possible. He has extensive experience assisting persons with disabilities, both mental and physical live full and independent lives and accomplish their personal goals.
